However, recent events have provided new interest and several vaccine candidates are either in clinical trials or the trials are close. In this issue of the journal, Dr. Schleiss and colleagues show that a non -replicating lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (rLCMV) vectored vaccine expressing CMV gB and/or pp65 induced B and T cells and improved pup survival in the guinea pig model of congenital CMV. The combination vaccine appeared to be the most effective.
